ABOUT

On Friday, January 20, 2017,  activists from across the country will convene the Rally for HUMANITY at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial. The Rally for HUMANITY, will show resistance to the intolerance and injustice occurring across country that has been exacerbated by the 2016 Presidential election. This rally will also symbolize our continued commitment to address the most pressing issues of our generation, including the need for comprehensive gun legislation that addresses urban gun violence, immigration reform, LGBTQ rights, and the need for criminal justice reform.  Moreover, we want to reinforce, that we expect all branches of government to serve and protect all citizens regardless of their identities.

History has shown us demonstrations are just one part the strategy we must implore, to create the change we want to see in our society.  After January 20, 2017 we must go beyond marching and chanting, and we must build local infrastructure, to train and educate citizens on upcoming elections and issues impacting our communities.

The 2018 midterm elections, are very crucial, so our steering committee will create a civic engagement blueprint that can be implemented in communities nationwide. This blueprint can serve as a tool to educate people on how to build a diverse pipeline of progressive leaders to run for elected office, and or become organizers in their local communities. We will not only encourage and equip individuals to run for seats in Congress, but  local positions such as mayor, district attorney, and school board representative.

Furthermore, we will encourage citizens to build relationships with their elected officials, to ensure officials are representing the interest of their constituents. Additionally, we will continue voter registration efforts and encourage individuals to educate their communities on down the ballots questions for all races, by hosting teach-ins and encouraging civic engagement by attending local hearings, and public meetings-understanding all of this has an impact on how we experience life.

The next four years, will be trying, with that being said we need strategic responses, to acts of intolerance. If citizens recognize unjust behavior we recommend individuals participate in economic boycotts, of all companies and organizations that support candidates, political figures and ideologies with divisive platforms and rhetoric.

As we get closer to the rally, we will update this website with rally logistics.
